CAESAREAN CUT
Macedonian short stories
Selected by: Kata Kulavkova
Idea::
When the possibility of making an anthology of the Macedonian short
story was mentioned in a conversation with Katica Kualafkova, I was more
than interested in realising that idea. We needed a bit more time than
we had planned in the beginning, but obviously some things should not be
rushed. We used the time to additionally strengthen the budget for this
project. In the meantime, we were joined by Elizabeta Bakovska who took
over the translations into English. Additionally, the translations were
checked by Richard Gaughran. Initially planned under the name “The
Macedonian Short Story of XX Century”, this book was named “Caesarean
Cut – Macedonian Short Stories”. The name was appropriate due to the
fact that the short stories that are found here belong to the second
half of the last century. Also, this stresses an overview, a cut,
in the rich production of the Macedonian short stories.
Goal::
The goal of this book is to offer a chronological view of several
narrative approaches/poetics and promote the authors from Macedonia
before the world. This book is intended to all of those who respect the
art of the short story, and understand Macedonian or English.
